Despite losing out in the race to sign Everton striker Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United, former Liverpool player Steve Nicol believes Chelsea signing Morata will be a better deal than Lukaku.
Nicol believes Morata is a better all-round footballer compared to Lukaku who offers just power and strength.
Real Madrid are reportedly willing to sell Morata for a fee of around £70 million and Chelsea have been urged to splash the money on Morata, who was Real Madrid’s second highest goalscorer in all competitions with 20 goals last season.
“Chelsea are actually going to end up coming out okay on this if they get Morata,” Nicol said on ESPN FC.
“For me, there is a couple of things Lukaku has that Morata doesn’t. That is just power and strength. I’ll have a football player over that every day of the week. He (Lukaku) has got a proven goalscoring record in a team that’s not under severe pressure week in, week out.”
