Everton striker Romelu Lukaku was expected to join Chelsea this summer before Premier League rivals Manchester United hijacked the deal for the 24-year-old striker.
Despite Chelsea matching United’s bid for the striker, various reports claim the Belgian forward is set to undergo a medical at Manchester United and finalise personal terms over the coming hours.
Former Premier League goalkeeper Shaka Hislop still expects Chelsea to be a stronger team than Manchester United next season even if Lukaku joins Manchester United.
“I think the issue is, and we are still very early in the transfer window, even with the new signings for Manchester United including Lindelof, I still don’t think this team is as good as Chelsea,” Hislop said on ESPN FC.
“There is still a lot of question marks about Chelsea, particularly around Diego Costa.
“Is he staying? Is he going? If he does go, which it looks like, who’s his replacement?
“Other than that, let’s freely assume that it’s a like for like replacement for Diego Costa, what we saw from Chelsea last term, I don’t think anyone has done anything in this transfer window to eclipse that.”
