Chelsea completed the signing of 24-year-old Germany international Antonio Rudiger from AS Roma on Sunday for a reported fee of £34million.
Rudiger, who signed a five-year contract with Chelsea, will not be part of the squad as Chelsea start preseason today (Monday).
Rudiger has been granted time off by Chelsea as a result of Germany’s recent Confederations Cup final win however the majority of Antonio Conte’s squad are due to return to preseason training today including Diego Costa.
Rudiger is Chelsea’s second signing of the season after the free transfer of Willy Caballero, who left Manchester City this summer.
“It’s a great feeling because not every player has the opportunity to join a huge club like this,” Rudiger said after signing for Chelsea.
“I am looking forward to meeting up with my new team-mates and I’m very proud to officially become a Chelsea player.”
