Chelsea fans were surprised to see club record signing Alvaro Morata played out of position in his first start for Chelsea.
With Eden Hazard out and Pedro injured as well, Conte opted to start Morata from the left side while Michy Batshuayi played as the targetman.
Conte started the game with Michy Batshuayi and Alvaro Morata together, however when asked about whether that would continue the Italian said: “This is a necessity because I haven’t other players.”
The Chelsea boss probably used the system as a rehearsal for the Community Shield game against Arsenal on Sunday but it didn’t pan out well.
Conte has probably sent a message to the Chelsea board that the team is still short of players. With Pedro and Hazard out, Willian is the only experienced winger in the squad as Charly Musonda and Jeremy Boga are still youngsters.
