Chelsea will be in the Champions League this season after missing out on Europe’s elite club football competition last season.
Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has a modest view about Chelsea’s chances of winning the Champions League and have told fans that winning the Champions League will be a tall order, but the team will give their best, as he revealed that he’s working on building the team’s structure.
Conte told Standard Sport: “I am excited to play in the Champions League with Chelsea, but I know we have a lot of road ahead before we can compete to try to win the Champions League.
“We are trying to rebuild a situation and it’s not easy. You need a bit of time to create a structure and to build every season and then to go to fight.
“Against Bayern Munich, it is very clear, no? We played against a very strong team and don’t forget they had (David) Alaba and (Juan) Bernat on the bench.
“And seven players at home: (Arjen) Robben, (Joshua) Kimmich, (Arturo) Vidal, Thiago Alcantara, (Manuel) Neuer, (Jerome) Boateng and another strong player.
“This is the reality and it is always important to know the reality and then to try and work and try to improve.
“But the reality is this: Bayern Munich is ready to fight to win the Champions League. Because every season they stay there, and they try to improve the team.”
He added: “But when you must rebuild you need to buy players, but also to create the solid foundation and then to find one or two strong players to improve your quality in an important way.”
