Diego Costa will not play for Antonio Conte at Chelsea again and has even been barred from joining the first-team group for training, a report on Daily Mail claims.
Alvaro Morata has joined Chelsea to replace Costa as Conte’s main striker despite Costa being Chelsea’s highest goalscorer last season.
Conte’s mind was made up after Costa tried to leave Chelsea in January when he received a lucrative offer from China despite Chelsea being in a midst of a title challenge.
Costa isn’t part of Chelsea’s pre-season tour of China and Singapore, having been allowed to extend his summer break in the hope a transfer deal can be struck.
A return to Atletico Madrid seems the only option for Costa at the moment but Chelsea and Atletico Madrid are far apart in their valuation of the striker.
Speaking for the first time since his text-message exchange between himself and Costa, Conte said: “In January, the Costa situation was made very clear. For the club, for him and his agent and for me the situation is closed.”
