Chelsea have completed the signing of Willy Caballero on a free transfer and Antonio Rudiger from AS Roma for a reported fee of £34 million but according to Julien Laurens, Rudiger wasn’t Antonio Conte’s first choice signing.
“Antonio Conte is starting to get really, really, really frustrated,” Laurens said on ESPN FC.
“Last summer, his first summer at the club, it was already the case. The players he wanted never arrived.
“When David Luiz signed on the last day of the transfer window in August it was because before that Koulibaly from Napoli didn’t sign, because Bonucci from Juventus didn’t sign, they were the first two options.
“In January it was similar, he wanted (Fernando) Llorente from Swansea, they didn’t make it. Again, this summer is the same.
“He wants Tiemoue Bakayoko from Monaco and it’s dragging on, dragging on and dragging on. He wanted Lukaku, but he’s not getting him.
“He’s got Antonio Rudiger but again that was not his first choice. He wanted Koulibaly or Bonucci before him as well.
“They were all too expensive or the club didn’t think they were better choices than Rudiger.”
