Chelsea won the Premier League last season with N’Golo Kante and Nemanja Matic been Antonio Conte’s preferred midfield partnership but that is expected to change next season with Tiemoue Bakayoko expected to partner Kante in midfield.
Former Premier League goalkeeper, Shaka Hislop, believes Bakayoko and Kante will work exceptionally well together.
“I think so (it’s good business),” Hislop told ESPN FC.
“Bakayoko certainly came to the fore at Monaco, you see his talents. I think he would be the perfect counter to N’Golo Kante.
“They’re very similar in their style, Bakayoko not as good defensively but Kante not as good in terms of precision of pass and his own passing range.
“I think those two will work exceptionally well together. The question is, how does that play into Nemanja Matic? What do you lose or what do you gain?
“I think you gain a better defensive midfielder but I think with Bakayoko you don’t necessarily get the goals, although they have similar stats, or the range of goals you get from Nemanja Matic when needed.
“This means more focus on their front three, front five as it were for Chelsea which I don’t think is beyond them.”
