Following the departure of Chelsea legend and captain, John Terry, Chelsea have confirmed the appointment of Gary Cahill as Chelsea captain ahead of the new season.
Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta will take on the role of vice-captain.
Cahill played alongside Azpilicueta in Chelsea’s back three last season and he is pleased to have the Spaniard as his deputy.
“I have a very good relationship with Azpi and that’s important,” Cahill told Chelsea’s official website.
“He’s a top player but his work-rate and character are very strong so he has all the characteristics you would expect from a leader.”
