Chelsea players will return to pre-season training on Monday, and Nemanja Matic will join them, despite being heavily linked with a move to Manchester United.
With Chelsea having agreed a deal to sign Tiemoue Bakayako from Monaco, Chelsea boss Antonio Conte was willing to sell Matic to Manchester United, but all that seems to have changed now, as United gazumped Chelsea in the bid to sign Romelu Lukaku.
The £75million sale of Lukaku to United could affect the deal for Matic, as Conte has missed out on another key target.
The coming of Bakayako will jeopardise Matic’s playing time in the first team and so the 28-year-old could still be interested in an exit, depending on if Conte wants to keep him as a potential back-up as well.
However, United are still interested in signing Matic, with Jose Mourinho wanting to bring in a defensive midfielder this summer to allow Paul Pogba to play a more attacking role.
But after all that has happened, will Chelsea sell to the Red Devils?
