Both Chelsea and Manchester United have shown interest in Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata this summer. But there has been a recent twist in event as United have now opted to sign Romelu Lukaku from Everton instead of the Spaniard.
United seemed to be in pole position to sign Morata as Chelsea never really submitted a bid, but Real Madrid were keen on milking money from the sale of Morata which made Jose Mourinho and Manchester United to turn around and opt to submit a bid of £75m for Lukaku that was accepted by the Toffees.
Morata is said to be unhappy with the recent turn of events and wants a move to Chelsea after he saw his hopes of a switch to Manchester United fade away.
The 24-year-old Real Madrid striker now hopes Chelsea rekindle their interest in him. But with Real Madrid insisting on £70m for a striker who was never first-choice and barely started games for Los Blancos, it’d be difficult for Chelsea board to approve such a move.
What next for Chelsea, Morata and Antonio Conte?
