Alvaro Morata is on his way to Chelsea! That has got to be news of the summer so far. He’s not Aubemeyang or Lewandowski, but he’s the best Chelsea could have gotten in my opinion. He’s young, he’s quick, and he’s a lethal finisher. The only reason why people still have doubts regarding his ability to deliver is due to the fact that he’s not scored more than 20 goals per season. However, when you consider that he managed that tally while playing second fiddle, you’d understand the potential for him to surpass it given the time.

Morata has never quite been a starter, but he always took his chances when they come. At Juve, he didn’t start often, neither did he at Madrid, but his goal per game ratio was better than that of the main men at those clubs. The only reason he’s not scored as much as the big name forwards we have today is simply because he hasn’t had as much time on the pitch as they have. He’s only 24 too, meaning he has a lot more time to mature and be the deadly striker he can be.

As much as either Auba and Lewy would have been an instant hit, judging by their pedigree, they’re nearing 30, and considering the fee we would have paid for them, I’d rather we invest it in a far younger player who has resale value. I am not implying Morata won’t be a success because I’m certain he will, but even if he doesn’t quite live up to expectations, he can be sold for a reasonable sum, so we don’t lose out entirely.

However, I’m sure Morata will thrive at Chelsea. Conte is a manager that knows how to bring out the very best in his players, especially younger ones. Conte would be eager to bring out the best in Morata as he is a player Conte has always wanted to work with. It’s a match made in heaven, Chelsea and Morata, it’s only a matter of time before we see that.

King Jay is a writer/broadcaster with years of experience under his belt. His love affair with Chelsea actually began as a joke, but today, he stands tall as a die-hard blue. What makes him perfect for this blog? He lives for Chelsea FC, in fact, I heard he sat in the middle of a road, and refused to go home after that bitter loss to Barcelona in 2009. Haha.
