Real Madrid have eventually agreed to sell their second choice striker Alvaro Morata to Chelsea for a fee worth around £60m.

This is the second summer Chelsea and Antonio Conte will try to sign the Spaniard as Madrid refused to sell him last season.

Reports claim Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane wanted to keep the 24-year-old as a backup for first choice striker Karim Benzema, but Morata was bent on leaving the club.

Real Madrid posted an emotional video in which Morata waved farewell to his teammates before leaving their Los Angeles camp. He also hugged Zidane and wished him well.

Morata said: “I told him thank you very much for everything and good luck for this year.”

He then spoke to Marca about his move to Chelsea: He told Marca: “I am very happy, god willing, tomorrow I will be at Chelsea, a club that has always admired me.

“I do not think I’m going back to Madrid, I find it difficult and for now it’s not something that I am considering.

“It was clear that the goal was to leave, it’s been a fairly strange summer and until I pass the medical examination, I’m not going to be calm.”

Morata has arrived London for his medical, and his transfer is expected to be confirmed today.
