Chelsea manager Antonio Conte made it pretty clear after the loss to Inter Milan that the team needs reinforcements if they are to compete with other rivals this season.
With Eden Hazard and Pedro out, Conte played Alvaro Morata out wide and he said it was due to the lack of players in his squad.
Conte said: “Is it important for him to get that first goal? Yes. But against Inter Milan he didn’t play like a No9 — he played like a No10.
“But it is a necessity for me in this moment to play him there because we don’t have other players.”
Conte brought on eight youngsters during the defeat to Inter on Saturday and Chelsea will have to start the new season without key names such as Eden Hazard, Tiemoue Bakayako and Pedro is also injured but expected to be back soon.
Conte needs replacement for Nemanja Matic and also wants to strengthen the wing-back positions. Reports claim Chelsea board are willing to heed the Italian’s call and there will be new signings before the start of the new season.
For now, reports claim Chelsea are considering bidding for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Ross Barkley, while Conte has asked Bayern Munich to take Renato Sanches on loan.
