Jose Mourinho pulled out of signing of Alvaro Morata from Real Madrid and opted to sign Romelu Lukaku from Everton.

The 24-year-old played under Mourinho at Real, and it was the Portuguese who gave him his debut at the club.

However, he chose not to sign him and has now wished him luck at Chelsea.

Mourinho was asked about Morata in his post-match press conference following United’s penalty shootout win over Real. He said: “That subject is interesting for those of you who are talking and writing about Real Madrid, but not me,’ he told reporters in Spanish, having been asked why Morata ended up at Chelsea.

“I do not care. Alvaro is at Chelsea, and I wish him luck and to be happy.”
