The transfer window struck another blow to Chelsea as midfielder, Nathaniel Chalobah snubbed a new contact from the club to join Watford in a £5 million deal which could rise to £7 million with add-ons. This transfer was much to the muse of anti-Chelsea football lovers and the grin of Chelsea supporters who feel the player should have stayed at Chelsea.
No hard feelings towards Chalobah as he feels he needs regular playing time. But there’s no need for Chelsea fans to be worried as we already have his replacement at the club – step forward, Lewis Baker. Yea, you read right – Baker is the replacement for Chalobah.
The 22 year old fleet-footed player Baker joined Chelsea as a nine-year-old in 2005, having previously attended Luton Town’s centre of excellence. He has seen his stock rise over the years and has the look of a star player in the making. After several loan spells, the central midfielder should finally be given the chance to show the stuff he’s made of.
After conquering the Dutch league with Vitesse Arnhem, it’s about time he makes the step up to the first team. The double-footed, skillful and intelligent player boast a good passing range and dribbling skills, ability to use both feet and provide goalscoring threat. Surely he possesses more than enough star quality to replace Chalobah and also make his mark at Chelsea.
Potentially this might just be the season the club produces a star from one of our own. Let’s believe in the true blues. Cheers!
