Nemanja Matic has completed a permanent move to Manchester United, Chelsea have confirmed.
The Serbian seemed destined to leave Stamford Bridge for Old Trafford as Chelsea bought Tiemoue Bakayako from Monaco and the 28-year-old didn’t join the team in pre-season.
He leaves Stamford Bridge a fulfilled player having played an important role in two Premier League title triumphs, as he helped Chelsea to the Premier League title twice in his three seasons at the club. He also won the League Cup with the Blues.
Those trophies all came in his second spell at the club, after re-joining Chelsea in early 2014 to add steel and strength to the midfield.
Matic had two stints as a Chelsea player – his first period at the club, in 2009/10, he made three substitute appearances in a championship-winning season. He moved to Benfica in January 2011 as part of the deal which brought David Luiz to Stamford Bridge.
It was Jose Mourinho who brought Matic to Chelsea and the pair will now reunite at Manchester United.
Manchester United have also confirmed the signing on their twitter handle.
