With Chelsea keen on signing Romelu Lukaku from Everton and selling Diego Costa, reports claim that the Costa case is making it difficult for Chelsea in their pursuit of Lukaku.

However, football pundit Steve Nicol believes Chelsea is at fault for this and blames the club for not handling the situation really well.

“To be honest with you I think a lot of this is Chelsea’s own making,” Nicol said on ESPN FC.

“Initially I didn’t believe that (Antonio) Conte had sent a message to Costa saying ‘there’s no future here’ because that’s not how you go about it when you’re a coach.

“You have to, whether it’s the group or it’s individuals, look at them face to face and tell them how it is.

“I think it’s all coming back to them now to bite them in the backside. He’s not playing ball, it’s a slap in the face.

“You’ve just won the Premier League for your club and your manager and he just sends you a message and says ‘thanks very much, you’re on your way’. I am not shocked he’s digging his heels in.”
