Chelsea eventually secured the signing of Alvaro Morata from Real Madrid after pursuing the Spain international for two successive summers.
The 24-year-old is now a Chelsea player and has become the most expensive Spanish footballer of all time as well as the most expensive Chelsea signing after joining the Blues in a deal that could cost up to £70 million.
Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has admitted that Los Blancos are worse off without Morata.
Asked if his side are worse off after Morata’s departure, the Madrid boss replied: “Definitely. We saw what he did last year, he played very well and brought a lot to the team.
“It’s the way it is, Alvaro has gone and we’re lacking a striker at the moment.
“We’ll see what we’re going to do about it.”
