As the Romelu Lukaku deal was announced, I’m sure some Chelsea fans would have thought to themselves, “another one gone.” Well, I have not been particularly happy with our dealings so far in this transfer window, especially knowing that it’s only a few more weeks till the 2017/18 season kicks off, and we’ve made just a signing, who by the way, wasn’t a fair choice if you asked me; but of course, Caballero is a topic for another time. Right now, it’s all about Chelsea ‘missing out’ on Romelu Lukaku, who has now gone to rivals, Manchester United.
Well, Lukaku is a decent player. He’s been a revelation in the league, to be honest, but I am happy we dodged the signing. With all his goals and strength, Lukaku is not the type of player we need up front. If we’re going to sign a striker who supposedly will lead our attack, it should be someone above the Belgian’s level.
Throughout the period he was linked with Chelsea, I kept praying and hoping he’d somehow decide not to make the switch, and thankfully he didn’t, and I’m happy it has happened the way it has. Lukaku doesn’t strike me as the type of player who would be on top of his game always; he comes across as someone who could disappoint at some point. We don’t deserve that, we deserve the very best. A player who would score all the time, injury or no injury. Besides, the man played for us a couple of seasons ago before he left, a return never sat well with me, especially with the hefty fee slammed on him. What if he failed? What would become of the money? All these things ran through my mind, and made me uncomfortable with the situation, really, and I’m more than delighted he’s gone the Red way.
And honestly, I know that our transfer situation is confusing and disappointing at the moment, but I know the signings will come. We will definition get a better striker than Lukaku, unless Costa doesn’t stay. So let’s just keep our fingers crossed, stay positive, and continue to support our dear Chelsea. We haven’t gotten Lukaku because even the Chelsea management weren’t so convinced of his quality. When the time is right, our signings will arrive.
