Chelsea wantaway striker Diego Costa has been on exile in Brazil after being told he won’t be part of the season for Chelsea and made to train with the reserves.

Costa was key for Chelsea in going on to win the Premier League last season and Arsenal legend Martin keown has warned the Italian to be mindful of how he treats Costa.

“Nothing could go wrong for Antonio Conte last season,” Keown told the Daily Mail. “Now, in the space of one summer, everything is going wrong for him.

“It was interesting reading Sportsmail’s interview on Wednesday with Dave Bassett, who said he should have visited Pierre van Hooijdonk when the Nottingham Forest forward went on strike in 1998. Why has no one at Chelsea flown out to Brazil to see Diego Costa?

“I find it a real shame that one of the best front players in the Premier League may have to leave.

“Chelsea looked rudderless against Burnley without Costa, Pedro, Hazard and Matic — who has somehow been allowed to leave and strengthen a rival team. Whatever happens, the Costa issue must be resolved quickly. Chelsea players are starting to sympathise with him — they may well be worrying that they could be placed in a similar situation.

“Conte needs to have a good look at himself and take charge of the situation.”
