Chelsea development squad started the new season with a goalless draw at last season’s Premier League 2 runners-up, away at Manchester.
Joe Edwards took charge of the development squad for the first time in a competitive game and the Chelsea youngsters were impressive away from home and enjoyed the bulk of the goalscoring opportunities but could not get past City goalkeeper Daniel Grimshaw.
Edwards started with five of those who lined up in the FA Youth Cup final between the two sides in April, and there was a Chelsea debut for the highly-rated Ethan Ampadu, who was signed during the summer.
