Chelsea lost to Arsenal 4-1 on penalty kicks, following a 1-1 draw at the Wembley Stadium after 90 minutes of play.
The headline of the Community Shield clash was Antonio Conte’s decision to make Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois a penalty taker ahead of regular names like David Luiz and Cesc Fabregas.
The Chelsea first choice goalkeeper missed the spot kick as his shot flew waywardly over the bar. Conte has revealed he made the decision due to Courtois’ penalty ability in training.
The Chelsea manager said: “Courtois is one of the best players to kick a penalty. If you have a player that shows you during training to be one of the best, you pick him to shoot a penalty.
“Don’t forget also that Morata is a forward and he did the same.”
