With Cesc Fabregas being unavailable for Sunday’s clash against Tottenham and Tiemoue Bakayako not fully recovered, Chelsea manager Antonio Conte isn’t left with many options to partner N’Golo Kante in central midfield on Sunday.
David Luiz has been tipped by many to step up and play the role, but Conte has revealed he doesn’t fancy Luiz playing in midfield.
Speaking ahead of Sunday’s clash, Conte told the media: “Honestly I prefer David to play as a central defender. We are trying different solutions and working on them. David is a player available to play in different positions and it’s a pleasure for me to have this type of player. Imagine if you had a player who told you he only wanted to play in one role.”
There are also reports that Bakayako could be available for Sunday’s game as he looks to play his first match for the club since signing from Monaco this summer.
“Bakayoko is improving very well,” Conte revealed in his press conference. ‘He is not at the top physical condition but I think he could be in contention for the game.
“The situation is not easy in this moment. At this moment I don’t have other midfielders available. I have to make a difficult decision, but Bakayoko could be in contention for the game against Tottenham, why not.”
