Chelsea signed Alvaro Morata for a club record fee of £60 million; a fee that could rise to £70 million, £20 million more than what Chelsea paid to sign former club record signing Fernando Torres.
The 24-year-old Spaniard, who had his first feel of football in England, missed a penalty as Chelsea lost the Community Shield to Arsenal 4-1 on penalty kicks.
The pressure is already beginning to build for the club record signing, and Antonio Conte has told fans to give the 24-year-old time and he would deliver.
Conte said after the game against Arsenal: “Morata has missed work but that’s normal, he has only stayed with us for two weeks. It’s very important for him to find a good physical condition and to understand our idea of football.
He also added that summer signings Antonio Rudiger and Tiemoue Bakayako will also need time. He added: “That’s normal. It’s the same for Rudiger and for Bakayoko.”
