After a penalty shootout, Chelsea lost out to Arsenal in the season curtain raiser, the FA Community Shield at Wembley. It was a good game for both sides, and either side could have won at the end of the day; unfortunately, it wasn’t us.
The talking points of the match will be the unfortunate red card Pedro picked up towards the end of the game, and the Ill- fated spot kick from Alvaro Morata. Obviously, the idea of his pick by Conte was to boost his confidence ahead of the official season kick off, but then, perhaps it shouldn’t have been. He is still very new to life in England, and the play pattern, perhaps a penalty shootout in the Community Shield was not an ideal way to get him started. His character will now be in focus, as the world will be watching to see how he bounces back from the pain and disappointment of that miss.
It’s all happened, and now, we must look ahead, and see how we can put it behind us, and forge on. Losing the Community Shield does not have any impact on how our season will pan out, unless we choose to allow it. Burnley would have watched this game, and will put plans in place to stop us. We must get back, train hard, and return stronger next weekend.
Hazard and Bakayoko are not going to feature at the start of the season, unless there’s a last minute miracle. Conte has to dig in deep, and come up with something better than Sunday’s performance. It wasn’t a bad performance, I think we played okay; we were just unfortunate to have conceded late on.
My confidence in the team is rock solid as ever, and I know that we’ll put up a good defence of our title this season.
