Premier League clubs are set to meet to discuss closing the transfer window before the season starts in future and former Everton midfielder John Collins thinks it would make sense for the transfer window to close when the league starts.

“I think it would make common sense for the window to close when the league starts,” Collins told talkSPORT.

“That would make sense but the problem you have got in Europe is the leagues start on different weeks so different countries would have different benefits.

“But if you ask a manager what they would want, they would want it closed.

“But I don’t know – if you ask the chairmen and the owners of the clubs – if they would all want that because it benefits some clubs.

“If your club is in need of cash and you get a big bid then it can save your coffers and your accounts go up.

“So I think some owners would like it to stay open.”
