Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has twice in the past week revealed that he’s unhappy with his squad heading into the new season and wants the club to sign new players.
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has admitted he would be “very surprised” if Conte is still Chelsea manager in 12 months time following his disappointment with the Chelsea board.
Hesitation to bring in new players while he was in charge of Juventus led to him exiting the club and this has led to speculation over his future and former Liverpool star Carragher believes he will be gone before next season.
“I’d be very surprised if I’m sitting here in 12 months time and he’s the Chelsea manager,” Carragher told Sky Sports in The Debate. “I think he’s the type of manager who won’t accept the involvement of people above. He’s not going to go quietly. It’s not great for the club when the manager is coming out and speaking the way he is.
“They’re like Real Madrid. I don’t think they [Chelsea] value the manager like other clubs do. They’re not scared to get rid of a top manager after 12 months.
“They can’t really complain, since Abramovich has come in, I think they’ve won more trophies than anybody else, certainly it must be them or or Manchester United, it must be very close.
“They have a model there where they have a say in how the club is run: the owner, [Michael] Emenalo, different people involved there. Maybe that’s a frustration for him.
“The success they’ve had changing managers, they’re not going to take anything like that from Conte. They got rid of Mourinho. They got rid of Ancelotti. Of course he wants players in, but I think sometimes managers get their excuses in.”
