Chelsea have a history of signing expensive number nine’s who failed to reach their expected heights and many have tipped Blues record signing Alvaro Morata to go the same way of Andriy Shevchenko and Fernando Torres.
However, Blues legend Frank Lampard has admitted that Morata won’t flop at the club.
“There’ll be a lot of pressure on him,” Lampard said in an exclusive interview with football.london.
“His test, for me, is not him as a player because he has all the attributes and mentality to take on that role, but taking on what Diego Costa took on.
“It was probably easier for Costa as he’s such a strong character and he took it on instantly.
“Morata for me needs to stand up and do that.
“I think the way he plays is quality and his movement is ideal as a striker on his own for the way Chelsea will play.
“I hope he can settle in quickly because the problem with Torres and Shevchenko was the slow start and people start talking about that very quickly.
“You have to be able to take that on, be thick skinned and be good at what you do.”
