Chelsea slumped to an embarrassing 3-2 defeat to Burnley on Saturday at Stamford Bridge with the Blues 3-0 down at half-time.
Michy Batshuayi started ahead of Chelsea’s record signing Alvaro Morata. With Chelsea 3-0 down, Chelsea boss Antonio Conte brought on Morata for Batshuayi and pundit Paul Merson believes it was a shocking decision to make.
According to Paul Merson, Conte should have played both Morata and Batshuayi and taken the take to Burnley instead of trying to limit the damage. Merson insists Conte should have played 4-3-2 with Morata and Batshuayi up front.
“I can’t believe it,” Merson said on Sky Sports.
“He’s brought on Morata and he’s taken off Batshuayi.
“So he’s taken one forward off for another. They’re 3-0 down, have a go!
“Go four at the back, three in midfield, two up front and have a go.
“For me it looks like it’s damage limitation to make sure we don’t get beat by anymore. Shocking decision in my opinion.”
