In a game that was heading Chelsea’s way, a late Pedro Rodriguez red card helped Arsenal’s cause as Sead Kolasinac powered an 82 minute header past Petr Cech.
The game ended in a penalty shootout and Arsenal carried the day.
See how the players fared after the 90 minutes of 1-1.
Courtois: Was very sharp in goal and made a number of saves for his team in the first-half especially. 7/10
Azpilicueta: Didn’t start the game too well and got a yellow card from his mistake. Grew into the game and ended the second half playing as a left wing-back. 6/10
Luiz: Didn’t show any flaw, but the Brazilian and his backline will be blamed for Arsenal’s late equaliser, with Kolasinac heading into the Chelsea goal unmarked. 6.5/10
Cahill: The captain was pretty solid today and his powerful header assisted Moses to score the team’s first goal. 7/10
Kante: Was his usual energetic self and worked hard in midfield. Didn’t dominate the first half as he would have liked. 6.5/10
Fabregas: Showed some glimpses of his brilliance with his passing, but otherwise he was missing at times. 6/10
Moses: The 26-year-old scored Chelsea’s only goal and was lively for Chelsea, running down the flanks at will. 7.5/10
Alonso: He didn’t do much to impress the manager and was substituted for summer signing Rudiger. 5.5/10
Batshuayi: The Belgian didn’t show today that he should be starting ahead of Morata and was isolated upfront most times. 6/10
Substitutes:
Morata: Replaced Batshuayi and within that short time showed good hold-up play, aerial presence and work rate. 6.5/10
Rudiger: If anything, the 24-year-old showed that he has pace on his side when he outran Welbeck shortly after coming on. Didn’t have much time to show his stuff.
Musonda: The young Belgian replaced Willian and had less than ten minutes to show what he could do and did pretty okay. His future is bright indeed.
