Chelsea lost to Sean Dyche’s men 3-2 at Stamford Bridge after going down 3-0.
It was the first time Chelsea were losing a home opening league game at Stamford Bridge and the first time Chelsea were losing to Burnley in the Premier League.
See how the players fared:
Courtois: He should have done better to save the first goal. Many were surprised how a weak shot was able to slip pass a goalkeeper in the calibre of Courtois. 4.5/10
Rudiger: The former Roma defender had a good debut performance. He was good in the air, assured on the ball and wasn’t easily beaten. 6/10
Luiz: Didn’t show captain material today as he lost his cool on many occasions. Would also take a share of the blame as he lost concentration in defence and let Vokes to head free for the third goal. Helped the team to score a second goal late on. 5.5/10
Cahill: He let his team down with that red card in what would have been an easy game for Chelsea. 3/10
Kante: Despite Chelsea’s calamitous performance in the first half, the Frenchman still did great and was one of Chelsea’s best performers. 6.5/10
Fabregas: Lost his cool so many times and capped his game with a red card when Chelsea were searching for a comeback. 4.5/10
Azpilicueta: Full of energy especially in the second half when Chelsea were a man down. Covered up for the team as he started from the right flank and crossed in a couple of wonderful balls. 6/10
Alonso: He wasn’t at his best in the first half and went missing when Sam Vokes thundered a header past Courtois. Improved greatly in the second half and forced some wonderful saves off Heaton. 6/10
Boga: Didn’t spend enough time on the pitch as he was sacrificed when Cahill was sent off.
Willian: One of Chelsea’s best players today. He troubled Burnley with his pace and tireless running. Was Chelsea’s only threat before the introduction of Morata. 7/10
Batshuayi: Poor game for the 23-year-old. His hold-up play was terrible especially with Chelsea being a man down, his ball control was annoying and he just made it easy for Burnley’s defence. 4/10
Christensen: Looked confident for his age after coming in for Boga. Not a bad game for the youngster. 5.5/10
Morata: Today’s highlight for Chelsea is Morata. The record Chelsea signing justified his introduction with a goal and an assist and even had a goal ruled out for offside — all within 30 minutes. 7.5/10
Musonda: Didn’t spend much time on the pitch.
