With Pedro and Eden Hazard out due to injury, Antonio Conte played new summer signing Alvaro Morata out wide against Inter Milan during the pre-season game in Singapore. The system didn’t work pretty well, as he eventually subbed off the Spaniard after 60 minutes in the game. Chelsea lost 2-1 after going down to 2-0 against the Italian giants.
Conte has revealed that he could do the same thing against Arsenal as he doesn’t have enough players fit in the team at the moment.
When asked about the possibility of Morata and Batshuayi playing alongside each other against the Gunners, Conte said: “In this moment it could be an option. When you have Hazard injured, Pedro injured and only Willian, I don’t see other options. For this reason I tried the combination of the two players. For sure, Alvaro wants to play as a number nine but with his characteristics he could play number 10.
“I have another day to make the best decision for the starting 11. Alvaro is working very well and trying to reach the best physical condition and go into our idea of football. He needs a bit of time but he is working very well. I don’t know what my decision will be but he is a really good player and a good person.”
