Liverpool legend Jamie Redknapp believes swapping Nemanja Matic for Tiemoue Bakayoko is bad business for Chelsea at the moment. Redknapp admits it could be good business in the long term but at the moment it looks like a bad piece of business from Chelsea’s point of view.
“If you think back to the league game last season where Dele Alli got a couple of goals, his positioning caused Chelsea so many problems,” Redknapp said on Goals on Sunday.
“They haven’t got a Matic to deal with him, I will be interested to see if he goes with Bakayoko today.
“I hope he does, he’s only 23 years of age and it must have been driving him mad everyone saying how good Matic is.
“If he plays today he can show what a good player he is. It might end up looking long term, not at the moment, it looks like a bad piece of business from Chelsea’s point of view.
“But he’s 23, Matic is 29 and having watched him a lot in France, he’s a fantastic player.
“But he’s had a few injuries and whether he will be ready to start today will be interesting.”
