With Chelsea manager Antonio Conte admitting to the Chelsea board that his squad is thin, and with Chelsea starting the season with a 3-2 loss to Burnley, Chelsea have intensified efforts to strengthen the team before the close of the transfer window.
One player that has been consistently linked with Chelsea the past week is Arsenal’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. According to reports, Chelsea were keen on signing the Arsenal utility player for as high as £35 million.
Oxlade-Chamberlain is refusing to sign a new contract with Arsenal for anything less than £100,000-a-week, and despite being in the final year of his contract Arsenal have rebuffed Chelsea’s £35 million offer.
Report now claims Chelsea are willing to sign the 23-year-old for as high as £40 million.
Wenger has said about Oxlade-Chamberlain’s move: “One hundred per cent never exists in our job.
“I think all the three will stay. I will fight for them to stay.”
“After the board has to, of course, agree with me.
“And if they don’t agree we have to consider it as well, and I will accept it. But the board is behind me on that.”
