Chelsea have been handed a tricky test in the Champions League after the Blues were drawn together with Atletico Madrid, AS Roma and Champions League newcomers Qarabag in Group C.
Chelsea’s Group C is a group with capital clubs as Chelsea based in London, Roma based in the Italian capital of Rome, Atletico Madrid based in the Spanish capital of Madrid and Qarabag based in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan.
The last time Chelsea met Atletico Madrid was in 2014 when the Blues were knocked out in the semi-final stage by an Atletico Madrid team with Diego Costa. Atletico Madrid have former Chelsea players, Fernando Torres and Luis Felipe, in the squad.
Roma qualified for the Champions League as runners-up in the Serie A and the Blues last met the capital club in the 2008/09 group stage.
Qarabag, the Azerbaijan champions, are new to this stage of the competition. They qualified by defeating Copenhagen on away goals in the play-off round last night. They currently play in their capital city Baku.
