Antonio Rudiger joined Chelsea from Roma this summer and he made his Premier League debut in Chelsea’s 3-2 defeat to Burnley on Saturday.
In an interview with Chelsea’s official magazine, Rudiger revealed the opportunity to work with Conte was simply too good to turn down. Rudiger also hailed Conte as one of the best coaches in the world.
“I played in Italy, with Roma, and I’m a defender, so for me the tactical side is very important,” Rudiger said.
“I think, with Conte, I have one of the best coaches now.
“In Italy I learned a lot as a defender from a tactical point of view and I have to say a big thank-you to the people at Roma who helped me develop and achieve the move to Chelsea.
“I love the open game in this country and that’s why I’m here. I watched a lot of Premier League games growing up and a lot of them stand out, especially a game against Everton [in December 2006] when Didier Drogba scored a really fantastic goal to win it.”
