Former Arsenal player turned pundit Alan Smith believes Chelsea’s performance against Burnley was a result of all the things going on behind-the-scenes at Stamford Bridge.
“The performance against Burnley was systematic against Burnley of their preseason and what’s happened behind the scenes,” Smith told Sky Sports.
“The players will know if the manager isn’t happy, isn’t quite settled, not getting along with the hierarchy, a player like Matic has gone and they’ll be thinking why have we just sold him.
“There’s doubts in the players mind and you add in the fact that they’re champions and quite often it’s easy to drop of five or 10 per cent and you’re coasting a little bit.
“It’s all come together to produce a performance like that and now they’ve got Spurs at the weekend and they’ve got to try and bounce back.
“The last thing they want is what happened two seasons back under Mourinho where they just couldn’t pick it up and there’s a danger of that happening if they don’t respond.”
