Chelsea boss Antonio Conte used David Luiz in midfield as Chelsea defeated Tottenham 2-1 last weekend at Wembley and pundit Phil Thompson believes using Luiz in midfield was a masterstroke.
“I think the game was quite similar to the (FA Cup) semi-final when Chelsea did a number on them, allowing them to have a lot of possession,” Thompson said on Sky Sports.
“They crowded that central area Chelsea.
“David Luiz, playing him in the middle, looks like a masterstroke.
“I saw him come out of position one time and he raced back to get in-between the other two midfielders to bolster that area.
“Everybody knew what they had to do. Tottenham were unlucky, I thought they deserved something out of it.
“But I thought Chelsea for all that they had to do, going there under massive pressure, and they looked together for me.
“That’s why I thought it was an absolute terrific performance because of the pressure they were under.”
