David Luiz was given a red card in the game against Arsenal earlier this month and was suspended for three matches.

Conte said: “As you know very well, David Luiz is a very important player for us. For sure, he’s a big loss for us. But I think Andreas Christensen is playing very well and showing that he’s a very good player, playing with great maturity and experience, showing he can play with us. I’m happy for his performances.”

Luiz conceded a penalty against Atletico Madrid that almost cost the team, but the Blues rallied around to win the game 2-1 despite going one down.

Asked if Luiz needs to improve his discipline, Conte said in his press conference: “No, I think he’s not a player who’s used to getting red cards. David is a good player who always puts great discipline on the pitch. I was a player and I understand that, sometimes, this kind of situation can happen. Once is okay, it’s enough.”
