Chelsea made a statement after the 2-1 win away at Atletico Madrid.

The game showed a team with strong mentality against a very difficult side, as the Blues bounced back from a goal down to take all three points,

Conte was asked in his press conference if Chelsea are now Champions League contenders, to which he said: “I think we have to game by game and above all keep the right humility. This humility last season brought us to win the league despite other teams being stronger than us. I think this season we have to keep the same humility and this type of game, this win, can increase our confidence but I repeat, our target is to try to be competitive.

“We know very well in this competition there are very strong teams, Atletico Madrid is one of these teams, and I think we are starting to build something important.

“Before we win this competition we must improve season by season, improve our team, experience. Don’t forget we are a very young team but we want to do our best in every competition and you know very well the Champions League is a big competition. There is a great desire to show we deserve to play this type of game.”
