Danny Drinkwater joined Chelsea from Leicester City on transfer deadline day and former Premier League midfielder Danny Murphy believes the 27-year-old midfielder ticks all the boxes for Chelsea.
“Danny Drinkwater, who left Leicester for Chelsea in the final minutes of the transfer window, is a very clever signing for the champions,” Murphy wrote in Evening Standard.
“He ticks so many of the boxes for an Antonio Conte midfielder. He is energetic, disciplined, a good passer and clever with his positional play.
“With Drinkwater, N’Golo Kante, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Cesc Fabregas, Chelsea now have top-class competition for places in central midfield.
“The other advantage is that Drinkwater, knows the League — he was a champion with Leicester in 2016, after all — so he will not need any time to adapt.
“Whether Drinkwater becomes a regular starter, time will tell, but Chelsea are in so many competitions that he is sure to get his chance.”
