Ahead of the Premier League clash between Chelsea and Manchester City at Stamford Bridge later today, former Chelsea defender Graeme Le Saux believes exploiting Manchester City’s weakness in their left-back position could be the key to beating Manchester City.
Le Saux is expecting Chelsea boss Antonio Conte to instruct Willian to exploit that area.
“For Chelsea, Antonio Conte’s system and ability to adapt to what is going on in the game should make them comfortable with whatever Manchester City throw at them,” Le Saux told Betfair.
“As we saw against Atletico, they’ll be more than happy to work to contain Guardiola’s men. I would particularly look for them to perhaps start with their usual three at the back, but again as they did in Madrid, drop into a back five. Conte won’t see that as being defeatist, he’ll be realistic about the City threat.
“Chelsea can be lethal on the counter, and how Pep sets up to deal with that will be really interesting; especially when you consider that his first choice left back is injured.
“That could be an area Conte instructs Willian to exploit. There’ll be many wondering whether Guardiola is going to come into the game with more caution but as previously mentioned, I think he’ll treat it very much as business as usual.”
