The Premier League transfer window closed yesterday, and the Spanish transfer window closes at midnight today. The big question on everyone’s lips is: will Diego Costa be able to complete his move to Atletico Madrid today? And if he does, would he join a club on loan?

According to Sky Sports sources, Costa’s chances of rejoining Atletico Madrid on Spain’s Deadline Day have been described as “unlikely but not impossible”.

Sky Sports reveal two things that have made the deal even more difficult. First, Atletico have so far offered only half of what Chelsea want for the striker, which is £50m.

Secondly, Atletico are also reluctant to pay Costa’s £150,000 a week wages before he can play for them in January, and one option being actively pursued is to find a loan club for Costa to join until then.

A source close to the negotiations told Sky Sports News the chances of a last-minute deal being struck are becoming “improbable, but in football nothing is impossible”.
