Nemanja Matic’s move to Manchester United from Chelsea has been questioned by supporters and ex-players, with lots of pundits attacking Chelsea for such a decision.
But former Everton and Manchester City defender Joleon Lescott has hailed Chelsea’s decision.
“I know it’s going to sound strange me saying this, but I think Chelsea do deserve some credit in the fact that they made it clear to the player they didn’t want him and then they didn’t hinder him going to his destination of choice,” Lescott said.
“In previous situations clubs would say they don’t want you and restrict you from going to rivals.
“Obviously Chelsea haven’t done that so you can applaud them for that aspect.
“But on a whole, what he brought to the team and the squad, it’s going to be hard to replace.”
