Chelsea couldn’t follow up the impressive performance against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday as the Blues lost to Manchester United 1-0 at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

Liverpool legend and BT pundit believes Chelsea boss Antonio Conte got his substitutions wrong against Manchester City.

“City looked fit, they looked as if they had stiffened it up defensively,” Gerrard said on BT Sport.

“But going forward they are an absolute joy to watch.

“For me, Chelsea showed them too much respect.

“They sat off them all game, they never tried to press.

“I felt Conte got his substitutions wrong today.

“After such a good performance midweek (against Atletico Madrid) and to get such a lift from that, they never came out on the front foot.

“At home, being the champions, they just gave Manchester City too much time on the ball and stayed off them all game long.”
