Carabao Cup 3rd round

KICK-OFF: Wednesday, 20 September 2017. 18:45 GMT/ 19:45 BST

VENUE: Stamford Bridge

It’s the League Cup third round tie between Chelsea and Nottingham Forest.

A look at the trophy cabinet of both sides will tell you that they both have a rich form of history; Nottingham Forest in older time, and Chelsea in recent times.

While Chelsea are third on the Premier League table, Forest are 10th on the Championship table.

In all competitions this season, Forest have won six games and lost four and also defeated Newcastle in the second round of the competition to reach this stage.

In all competitions, Chelsea have won four games, drawn one and lost one this season.

Forest, who lost at Stamford Bridge in the FA Cup in both 2000 and 2007, enter this game with a shaky form, having won only once in four league outings since booking their trip with a 3-2 extra-time victory at Newcastle in the second round.

Chelsea and Nottingham Forest have met once before in the League Cup, with the Blues winning 2-1 a third-round replay in 1971-72 after drawing 1-1 in the original match – a campaign in which Chelsea reached the final, only to lose 2-1 to Stoke City.

Chelsea barely lose to lower league oppositions, and have won 17 of their 19 League Cup against lower league opposition (D2), including wins in each of their last nine.

Nottingham Forest’s win against Newcastle in round two was their first League Cup win against opponents from a higher division since December 1993 after losing each of the 11 beforehand.

Chelsea have only failed to reach round four of the League Cup in just one of their last 11 seasons – losing 4-3 to Newcastle with Shola Ameobi netting a late winner.

Forest haven’t progressed to the fourth round stage since 2004-05, losing in the third round last season to Premier League opponents Arsenal, 4-0.

Eden Hazard is expected to start his first game for Chelsea this season, while youngsters like Kenedy and Charly Musonda are also expected to feature. Andreas Christensen, Davide Zappacosta, Antonio Rudiger, Michy Batshuayi and Tiemoue Bakayako would most likely be given starts in this game.

My prediction: Although Conte will make many changes to his side, it’s still going to be an experienced squad all the same.

Chelsea 4 vs 0 Nottingham Forest
