Former Arsenal player Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain turned down the chance to join Chelsea and instead opted to join rivals Liverpool.
One of the reasons been given for the Oxlade-Chamberlain’s decision to join Liverpool was his preference to play in central midfield, a position Antonio Conte wasn’t willing to play him at Chelsea.
However, it seems his preferred playing position wasn’t the only reason why Oxlade-Chamberlain rejected the chance to play for Chelsea.
According to a report on The Telegraph via Daily Express, England boss Gareth Southgate urged Oxlade-Chamberlain to join Liverpool.
The report claims Southgate had a private conversation with the 24-year-old which also played a role in his decision to join Liverpool.
