Chelsea have overcome a bad start to the season after the defeat to Burnley and are now in the race for the Premier League title.
However Arsenal legend and Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson doesn’t think Chelsea can win the league with Michy Batshuayi as a backup striker.
According to Merson, when the season reaches its peak, Batshuayi might not deliver in the absence of Morata and he has urged Chelsea to get a striker in January.
“You look at it and it looks quite strong at the moment,” Merson said on Sky Sports.
“But you’re talking 38 league games, you’re talking Champions League games, cup games.
“So over probably, if they have good cup runs, 60 games, will that be strong enough?
“The biggest worry is the centre-forward. If Morata gets injured, god-forbid he doesn’t, and the other lad’s got to play 12 games on the trot, then I see a problem.
“To come in for a couple of games here and there, he won’t let Chelsea down and he hasn’t.
“But if you give him a long distance of games, a longevity of games, I don’t think he will be enough.
“I think come January they will have to get another centre-forward, they’ve taken a big chance here.
“It’s alright playing Hazard up-front on his own or not playing a centre-forward and at the moment it’s a good enough squad, at the moment and they’re back to best.”
