With Gary Cahill being suspended following the red card he received against Burnley on the opening day of the season, Antonio Rudiger has been the one featuring on the left side of the defence, and he has admitted that he can play anywhere across the backline.
He told the official Chelsea website: “No, because I also played in Rome on the left side or on the right side. I am very flexible in all kinds of position in defence.”
He then revealed that it’s his job for him to defend so forward players like Willian, Pedro and Hazard can score.
He was asked if Chelsea’s first clean sheet of the season against Everton was a boost for the team. He responded: “Yes, and especially for the defence line because my job is not to score so I have to defend for players like Willian, Eden Hazard and Pedro. This is my job but then if you score goals and you also don’t concede, it is very nice.”
